Local ultra distance runners Wild Bill Wagner and Chef Bill Bailey created and host the annual Bad Ass 50K near the Everett Covered Bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Northeast, Ohio. In 2009, 90 runners came to the starting line, including 7 first timers at the 50K distance. They have been continuing the tradition for six successful years.
The overall philosophy of the race directors is to keep this event free for the participants. The Bad Ass moniker, nationally famous throughout the United States, depicts a series of races that are free to the participants. Generous in-kind supporters help keep the costs to a minimum while providing a great experience for the runners. The Church in the Valley, a non-denominational congregation that meets in the historic Everett Church of Christ, provides parking for the runners. Wild Bill gives each finisher a free technical running shirt and Chef Bill ensures the aid station is well stocked with good food and drinks.
